Tropical dry forest resilience and water use efficiency: an analysis of productivity under climate change

چکیده
Abstract Tropical dry forests (TDFs) worldwide have an environment-sensitive phenological signal, which easily marks their response to the changing climatic conditions, especially precipitation and temperature. Using TDF characteristics as a proxy, this study aims evaluate current continental climate change across Americas. Here, we show that TDFs are resilient water stress droughts by increasing rain use efficiency (RUE) in drier years recovering average RUE year following drought. Additionally, find productivity trends over past 18 spatially clustered, with sites northern hemisphere experiencing increased productivity, while equatorial regions no change, southern exhibiting decreased productivity. The results indicate will be under future particularly if there drought conditions.

Evidence for declining forest resilience to wildfires under climate change.
Forest resilience to climate change is a global concern given the potential effects of increased disturbance activity, warming temperatures and increased moisture stress on plants. We used a multi-regional dataset of 1485 sites across 52 wildfires from the US Rocky Mountains to ask if and how changing climate over the last several decades impacted post-fire tree regeneration, a key indicator of...
متن کاملEffects of climate change on water use efficiency in rain-fed plants
Water use efficiency (WUE) reflects the coupling of the carbon and water cycles and is an effective integral trait for assessing the responses of vegetated ecosystems to climate change. In this study, field experiments were performed to examine leaf WUE (WUEleaf) in response to changes in CO2 concentration and other environmental variables, including soil moisture and air temperature. We al...
متن کاملRelationships among net primary productivity, nutrients and climate in tropical rain forest: a pan-tropical analysis.
Tropical rain forests play a dominant role in global biosphere-atmosphere CO(2) exchange. Although climate and nutrient availability regulate net primary production (NPP) and decomposition in all terrestrial ecosystems, the nature and extent of such controls in tropical forests remain poorly resolved. We conducted a meta-analysis of carbon-nutrient-climate relationships in 113 sites across the ...

Sustainable development of agriculture is facing with several challenges such as climate change resulting change in the pattern of weather parameters as well as crop water requirements. In this research, due to the important role of agricultural activities whitin Urmia Lake Basin in the production of various agricultural products such as wheat, the possibility of supplying the plant's water req...
متن کاملStable Water Use Efficiency under Climate Change of Three Sympatric Conifer Species at the Alpine Treeline
The ability of treeline associated conifers in the Central Alps to cope with recent climate warming and increasing CO2 concentration is still poorly understood. We determined tree ring stable carbon and oxygen isotope ratios of Pinus cembra, Picea abies, and Larix decidua trees from 1975 to 2010. Stable isotope ratios were compared with leaf level gas exchange measurements carried out in situ b...
